coffee storage tipsCoffee Storage and You

Yes, you can store coffee. In a perfect world you would roast your coffee, grind it and then brew it immediately. However, we know that most people don't have either the time or the facilities for that, so the real key is to store your coffee in the best possible way.

Buy Whole Beans

Buying whole bean coffee is the key to maintaining freshness for the maximum amount of time. And, if you can't drink the coffee you purchase in a week, then buy less coffee more often.

How Long Can You Store Coffee?

There are storage devices available that will remove the oxygen from storage containers, essentially creating a vacuum, and these will help maintain coffee's freshness, but these devices don't really lengthen the overall shelf life of your coffee, they just maintain the coffee's freshness more completely for the length of time that coffee should be stored - about one week.

Storage

The best way to store your whole coffee beans is to put them in a tightly covered glass or ceramic container in your freezer where they may be kept for up to three weeks. There is no need to thaw your coffee beans since they can be easily ground even if frozen. As often as possible, buy your favorite coffee beans in small quantities for the freshest possible brew. Do not store coffee beans in plastic bags at any time. The petroleum oils found in plastic bags tend to be soaked into the coffee bean. We strongly suggest you buy no more than a week's supply of coffee at one time.
